NARRATIVE POLYPTYCHS
SPIRIT
Walls are symbolically interesting, offering simultaneously protection, limitation, or a support for any image, landscape, or else. Painted directly onto walls or on canvases, murals and large artworks contribute very powerfully to the atmosphere and energy of a space, in its close to endless possibilities.
Art is an experience, and large size works, murals as any installations, increase the effect. I found out that large projects, such as the 39 foot (12 meter) long APOCALYPSE, and special projects, such as the BONELLI EAGLE charity project for the environment, are especially interesting.
The concepts fuel the making, the deadlines energize and the constraints are a skeleton around which it is a delightful challenge to build, finally surrendering to the intuitive creative process.
HERO's CYCLE
THE HERO’S CYCLE was displayed at the WORLD EXPO 2010, in Shanghai.
This series is inspired by the book “The Hero with a thousand faces” by Joseph Campbell. Through this series of paintings, the artist represents the hero’s journey through nine major steps common to most myths, tales or stories:
THE CALLING, from a sign, THE DECISION, sometimes encouraged by a mentor, THE DEPARTURE, THE JOURNEY, THE TRANSITION or major critical challenge, THE DEATH OF THE EGO, a rare moment of complete lucidity and possibilities, THE TRANSFORMATION, rebirth, THE RETURN to the original group and, successfully, THE COMPLETION.
THE HERO’S CYCLE was painted in Monaco, 2008. Acrylics and bronze leaves. Paintings 1, 2, 8 and 9 measure 20x20", 3, 5 and 7, 40x40" and 4 and 6, 60x20". Total size when displayed: 13 x 5.7 feet.
APOCALYPSE
In these times of millennium transition there has been a collective obsession with various apocalyptic scenarios, such as the predictions Nostradamus and the Mayan calendar for the end of 2012.
In this context, Bergonzi remembered being moved by the Bible’s Book of Revelations, a rich source of symbols and images so powerful as to verge on the cruel. In 2010 she created a 12-meter long artwork inspired by the Apocalypse of St. John. The series is composed of 12 independent yet interrelated paintings that feature angels, dragons, celestial battles and much more. This masterpiece revolves around a spiritual and universal concept, and offers the powerful curves, organic forms, fluid movement and vivid colors of her recognizable style.
THE APOCALYPSE was painted in Monaco, 2009-2010. Oil paint / acrylic. Twelve paintings, H125 x W100 cm. Total size when displayed: H1,25 x W12m.
